I still need more volunteers.  I need 2nd shift timers and both shift ready bench.  Remember no matter where you volunteer your time you can still watch your kid swim.  We try to help each other out by letting each other know when a group is up.  Example, you are working concessions and you hear over the loud speaker, "Event 23, 9/10 Girls 25 Meter Freestyle, step up.", and your son has a number 24 written on his arm, you know to start paying attention or in a few minutes tell your team you are working with that you need to go watch your kid.  Do your best to make it quick so to not leave your volunteer team stranded.  Same applies for ready bench. Unfortunately as a timer you cannot just walk away, but maybe there is a lane that has no swimmer in it, a timer from that lane can help you for just that heat. As a timer you have the best viewpoint and are less likely to miss your swimmer.  As the meets go on you will find your means of knowing and getting there.  So don't think that just because you volunteer that you can't stop and watch or film your swimmer.  Also, you as the parents or guardians are not the only one that can volunteer for your swimmer.  Any friend, child (old enough to understand and complete the tasks) or family member that is there with you can volunteer on your behalf, just be sure that they tell me who they are standing in for so you get credit.  I will walk around the morning of the meet checking all my volunteers in, the beginning and end of each session.    

A normal swim meet ready bench is not as scary as it seems, there are usually 4 people per shift.  One of them calls the kids and "checks them in", another puts them on the right lane number on the bench.  Another person walks the kids to the chairs near the pool when it is time.  And he fourth person can either stay at the chairs and make sure the kids stay and move up or they can help organize.   We require two volunteers from our team and two from the other.  Deciding what you want to do at ready bench will be between you and the others to decide.
