Tigersharks,
Congratulations on the defeat of Inverness Forest!!! We won 306 to 254. Great job swimmers, keep it up for our next meet.
Coming Up This Week
This weekend we have our first Home Meet. Saturday, May 23, you will need to check in at OUR POOL at 7:00 AM. We are taking a page from Inverness Forest, I need EACH swimmer to check the window at the Clubhouse for their name. When they find their name, they need to circle their name. This is going to be a new procedure. I really need a punctual volunteer to help me with this. I will go into more detail later in the news letter. Recap - When you arrive at the pool, DO NOT PARK IN THE PARKING LOT, find either the Check In Person or your name on the papers clubhouse windows and circle your swimmer's name.
This is a home meet so we will have concessions and heat sheets for your purchase. If you would like to put in an ad in the heat sheet, I need those ASAP. I have to have the heat sheets to the printer by Thursday Evening. I know it's not much notice. If you are not sure how to make an ad, you can always contact me by email with a picture and what you want it to say and whether you want a full page of half page ad. Full page ads are $10 and half page ads are $5. They will be printed in full color.
Our team sets up around the pool area. The opposing team, Foxwood, will be setting up in the grass area behind the pavilion. We ask that you do your best not to set up chairs under the pavilion, of course if there is no room else where then you don't have much of a choice. Under the pavilion is the ready bench as well as the walk way for ready bench and Foxwood. Also, if you do not have a canopy, you may ask someone if you can share their space. For years my sister-in-law 'housed' 5 families under her canopy. Most of the time the swimmers are going to be in either your space or someone else. Just be sure that if you share a space with someone, you help each other out by paying attention to which kids are in which event so you can shove them off when their event is called.
With any home meet we have Set-Ups and Take-Downs. We require YOUR HELP to do this. You are required to do one of each to maintain your volunteer requirements. We will be setting up on Friday, May 22nd at 7:00 PM. You will need to be sure to check in with either the Volunteer Coordinator, Donna Pounds, or sign your name on the list. Same applies for the take-down. The take-down happens immediately following the end of the swim meet. If you have already left the pool because you have a young swimmer and you completed your volunteer session, you will need to come back to the pool. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a time of when that will be. Your best bet is to give your number to someone you know who will be staying till the end and have them call or text you just before the meet ends.
NEW VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:
Check in Person - I need 1 very punctual person to be at the pool at 6:30-45 AM. You will be required to spot each of our swimmers and get their name and possibly write their numbers on them. Mainly, CHECK THEM IN. This will help us and our coaches to know who is there and who is not. Before the meet starts we have a 'scratch meet', where the coaches scratch the kids that are not there to swim, or they have to change up relays because a swimmer is not there. This is not a home meet only position, you will be needed at every meet. Please come see me or Donna Pounds to sign up for this position.
COM Helper - I need an additional person to help me inside the clubhouse with paperwork, mainly the swimmers times. I will require your help beginning halfway through the 1st session through the end of the meet. This is not a home meet only position, you will be needed at every meet. I do not have to have the same person every time, but it is best to be consistent so I do not have to retrain someone, not that it's hard. Your main duties will be helping circle times, call out times, verify times and help with ribbons. Just because you are in the clubhouse does not mean you have to miss your swimmers event. If you know your swimmer is coming up you can stop and go watch time, I will be. Please come see me or Donna Pounds to sign up for this position.
Grill Man/Woman - We need someone to 'man' the grill during home meets only. We sale great sausages and sometimes hamburgers and other meats that require cooking and there is no better taste than meat on a grill. Our person that use to handle this is no longer on them team, their swimmer has aged out. I know nothing about grilling so I cannot tell you what time you start but you finished when we are out of meat or the meat is coming to a close. The grill is usually set up between the clubhouse and the fence surrounding the pool, just next to the main gate to go inside the pool area. So you are close to the action and can certainly leave to watch your swimmer, if you promise not to burn the meat. Please see me or Donna Pounds about this position.
Other News
We have a list we are putting together for those who wish to rent a hotel room in Livingston. The Livingston meet is on Saturday, May 30th. Check in for the hotel is Friday, May 29th at 3:00 PM and check out is Saturday, May 30th at 12:00 PM (noon). The swim meet will end promptly at noon. The Livingston pool is a community pool and requires to be opened to the public at 12 noon, so the swim meet has to be finished and broken down by noon. So if you book just one day, make sure you can either be back in time to check out, or you check out before you leave. The hotel of choice this year is the Holiday Inn. The room is $69 per night plus tax, totaling $77.97 a night. If you would like to get in on this deal, I need your information by the 27th. Or if you call the hotel yourself you must reference Ms. Marlene Simmons.
Sunday, May 24th we will be having our Ribbon Ceremony at Las Ramadas Grill & Bar at 6:00 PM. Come and support our sponsor or come just for the ribbons, its up to you. It is not required, but the swimmers love it because they get recognition. If you happen to miss the ceremony, we will have your swimmers ribbons during the practices for you to get. You will just need to see me and ask for them.
This Monday is a holiday, Memorial Day. Remember that we do not swim or practice on Mondays, this is your day off. Please be careful and come back Tuesday for a whole new round of practice. As usual, I have attached this weeks printed Newsletter, it usually has slightly different information on it, please check it out. Finally, feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thanks,
Sabrina Michalsky
Team Secretary
